NaNoWriMo, birthdays and Al Gore

Well, November has come and gone. I’m a month older, not any wiser.

As you all know, the past month was designated as National Novel Writing Month, a composition marathon to write a 50,000-word novel(la) in one month.

Not to be left behind, I eaglerly registered myself.

30 days and 10 disconnected chapters later, I can safely say that I failed miserably; I was only 30,000 words shy of the mark.

So what did I learn from this whole experience?

1) It’s not easy: I now have tremendous respect for writers. It’s almost impossible to see the perfection that you dreamed of in your end product; it takes a genius to do that, so give credit where it’s due.

2) Try something before critiquing it: Don’t say you can do better, because 9 times out of 10, you can’t.

3) I’m lazy: I don’t know if I’m just not feeling this new apartment, or if I have ADD, but I can’t sit down for more than 10 minutes to work on one task. I lack discipline.

4) Quitting is easy!: I’m gonna finish the rest of the book, even if it takes me till next November to do it. The reputation of my entire village rests upon me doing so.

And what does December have in store for me?

1) Birthday: It’s my birthday on the 29th. I will be 23. I’m starting to realize how old I am by watching some of the movies on AMC…since when did Rambo become a classic?

2) Shopping season: It’s time to shop for good deals and refurbish the old wardrobe. No more torn jeans and sloppy t-shirts. Time to grow up.

3) Make a change: I want to be a Big Brother. This is the time to do it, seeing as how I won’t be working for half of December anyway.

4) Dream of a vacation: I’m not going anywhere for the holidays, but that won’t stop me from making plans for future holidays. Sometime in March/April, I’m planning a national tour to see as many states, and visit as many family/friends as I can in 2-3 weeks. Fun.

Also, if you have time, make sure you watch Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. Why? Because it’s not terrorism that’s going to kill us.. it’s the environment.

Making sure everyone watches this movie is the first step in the right direction.  So come on boys and girls, let’s educate ourselves! Today’s post has been brought to you by the words ‘Al’, ‘Gore’, ‘for’, ‘President’.
