USA 1 – 2 Ghana

Oh well. Ghana probably deserved the second round more than the US did, taking into account all three group games, but US deserved this game more. The penalty given to Ghana was one of the most ridiculous calls of the tournament yet, and I knew at that point it was all over; for all their nice build-up in the midfield, there was no way the Americans could mentally recover from that goal and score 2 goals in the second half.

The one thing that has impressed me about this world cup is that I feel American fans are finally starting to get the hang of this football  thing. While dormant fans of american football, basketball and especially that travesty-of-a-sport baseball think they're watching theatre instead of a sporting event, I've noticed now that Americans now celebrate goals as true European fans would, show frustration at dodgy calls, and even blame referees for their losses! Maybe there's hope for them yet!
